Four Arrested Including “Brokers” After Border Crossing Attempt

Banteay Meanchey: Border police have arrested two “brokers” who tried to smuggle workers across the Banteay Meanchey border into Thailand illegally. This is despite the strict border restrictions implemented in line with the Covid-19 prevention. The Border Guard Force 503, in cooperation with the Fourth Patrol Squadron, has also arrested two workers.

The two workers were sent to a quarantine centre for medical examination while the two brokers were handed over to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Gendarmerie for legal action. An investigation will also be conducted to find out more how many Cambodians are involve in the illegal activity.

Reports from the border police show that in spite of the stringent measure of the government against Covid-19, which includes the prohibition of border crossing to Thailand, Cambodians continue to attempt border crossing - hoping that they could go back to work normally in Thailand in the middle of Covid-19.
